Edgar Meyer
Whether playing classical music with icons like Yo-Yo Ma and Zakir Hussain or Americana with bright lights like Chris Thile and Béla Fleck, the inimitable Edgar Meyer is the undisputed master of the double bass — “the best alive,” says San Diego Magazine. A MacArthur Fellow and Avery Fisher Prize winner (a first for a bassist), he creates impeccable new classical music for his instrument as well as ingenious transcriptions of Bach’s cello suites, full of fiendishly difficult effects rendered with deceptive ease. Meyer brings a lively suite of the material to this rare solo show. At Reynolds, a prolific collaborator and roundly acknowledged genius gets his well-earned due.
