Gangstagrass / Gabe Smiley
April 15, 2013 @ 8:00 pm| $7 in the Showroom
There are only three bands that can tame a mountain lion just by playing. Gangstagrass is one of them. Gangstagrass is also the other two of them.
Gangstagrass is a dirty fightin’, gator wrestlin’, foot stompin’ bluegrass-hip-hop project of Brooklyn based producer Rench, who has spent the last decade making gritty, soulful country hip-hop music that you will actually like.
Yeah, Gangstagrass did the theme song to Justified. Yeah, Rench and T.O.N.E-z got nominated for an Emmy for it. Yeah, this is real bluegrass pickers and real emcees making music. And yeah, we do it live too.
Gabe Smiley is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Chapel Hill, NC striving to make music that will change the world. After playing with bands “Cole Park” and “Bipolar Express” in High School, Gabe began to grow as a solo artist, developing a deep passion for music and a unique voice.
In the summer of 2012, he joined ranks with some of the areas top musicians including Daniel Fields, Joe Macphail, Patrick Carney, and Matt Phillips to tour the area and record a five song EP entitled “Lonely Lanova.” Their stellar ability to craft and shape his songs eventually led to the name “Gabe Smiley and the Rejuvenators.”
Drawing on inspiration from travel experiences, fictional characters, and imaginary relationships, his music falls into a genre of it’s own. Often times though, it shows influences from folk, pop-rock, and blues music as well as hard rock on occasion.
Above all things, Gabe aims to write tunes that will strike the listener with an honest, and original approach to contemporary music.
