Garage Bar: Sea Cow / Stars Explode
Date: Friday, August 24, 2012 Show Starts: 9:00 pm
Durham's own Sea Cow. You know you're in trouble when your bandmates are also your kid's friend's parents. Oh the humanity!
The Stars Explode
The Stars Explode started as a kind of vanity solo project by Doug Edmunds, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of critically acclaimed '90s power pop outfit, Gladhands. Following the untimely demise of that band, Edmunds set to work writing new material but waited for several long years to begin putting his tunes to tape (yes, 1/2-inch tape). By summer 2008, he found himself with a bona fide solo album, Doug Edmunds Presents…The Stars Explode.
Though the music is often upbeat, the record has a tough edge, with lyrical themes of death, marital dissolution, madness and addiction that provide a fitting contrast to Edmunds' undeniably catchy songs. This is smart, modern pop rock in the great tradition of Big Star, Cheap Trick, Sloan et al.
