The Games begin with the Opening Ceremony at London's Olympic Stadium. A celebration of the host country, the event is expected to feature an on-field British meadow; farmyard animals; a cricket match; and a performance by Paul McCartney.
These 2012 Summer Olympics -- they're supposed to be a party.
Ask anyone their favorite Summer Games and, almost without exception, virtually without hesitation, the answer is the same -- Sydney in 2000.
The city was alive and vibrant; crowds jammed the so-called "live sites"; the place was awash in goodwill and Olympic spirit.
That's what organizers have always intended for London to be. Only bigger and better.
