The dB's Reunite to Release First New Album in 30 Years
The dB's played their first show in June 1978 at Max's Kansas City in New York. Fast forward to 2012 and "Falling Off the Sky," the first record from the original dB's line-up in 30 years, is set to release on Bar None on June 12 on Bar/None Records.
Falling Off the Sky is the first in three decades to feature the band's original lineup of singer/songwriter/guitarists Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey, bassist Gene Holder and drummer Will Rigby -- the same lineup that recorded the beloved early-'80s classics Stands for deciBels and Repercussion.
The North Carolina-via-New York foursome's vintage releases are now widely revered as alt-pop landmarks. Falling Off the Sky embodies the same combination of infectious melodic craft, playful sonic experimentalism and barbed lyrical insight that originally established the dB's as key progenitors of the '80s Southern indie-rock explosion, while incorporating the wealth of musical and personal experience that the four bandmates have accumulated individually in the years since.

The Stars Explode started as a kind of vanity solo project by Doug Edmunds, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of critically acclaimed '90s power pop outfit, Gladhands. Following the untimely demise of that band, Edmunds set to work writing new material but waited for several long years to begin putting his tunes to tape (yes, 1/2-inch tape). By summer 2008, he found himself with a bona fide solo album, Doug Edmunds Presents…The Stars Explode.
Though the music is often upbeat, the record has a tough edge, with lyrical themes of death, marital dissolution, madness and addiction that provide a fitting contrast to Edmunds' undeniably catchy songs. This is smart, modern pop rock in the great tradition of Big Star, Cheap Trick, Sloan et al.
