We’re back!! It’s been four years. We missed you.
Periodic Tables is an informal science gathering hosted by The Duke Initiative for Science & Society. Invited speakers share interesting, relevant science to the general public in an engaging and interactive way.
Periodic Tables: Honest Data Visualization
What do we see when we look at a weather map, a graph tracking Covid infections, or a basketball player’s shot chart? Data visualization has never been more popular, more powerful, or potentially more misleading. Duke sociologist Kieran Healy explores why some visualizations are better than others, why good ones are so useful, and why honesty isn’t necessarily something we can recognize just by looking.
