CHRIS STAMEY GROUP

CHRIS STAMEY GROUP features in-demand session drummer Rob Ladd (the Connells) and adroit
bassist Robert Sledge (Ben Folds Five), with Matt McMichaels (Mayflies USA) and Stamey blending
their voices and electric guitars. Stamey has participated in indie music of all stripes since the 1970s, as
a musician, a producer, and a composer/arranger. His new album, The Great Escape, is slated for
Summer 2023 and features ace pedal steel player Eric Heywood as well as members of Chatham
County Line and Mipso.
New Songs for the 20th Century, a songbook and double CD of 26 new tunes inspired by the Great
American Songbook, was released in 2019 to general acclaim, followed in 2020 by a companion
collection, A Brand-New Shade of Blue. Other recent albums include Lovesick Blues and Euphoria, as
well as Falling Off the Sky with the dB’s. As a producer, he has worked with Ryan Adams, Alejandro
Escovedo, Flat Duo Jets, Skylar Gudasz, Tift Merritt, Le Tigre, and Yo La Tengo. His original jazz radio
play, Occasional Shivers, premiered nationwide on Christmas Day 2016. Stamey operates Modern
Recording, a studio in Chapel Hill, NC.
For this performance, by request, the band will be playing several selections from the seminal 1976 indie
release Sneakers.
