Mothers for Ceasefire Presents

Thu Feb 20, 2025 7:00 pm

Tickets $10/$20/$40

Join us for a special evening with Céline Semaan, author and founder of Slow Factory, a public service organization addressing the intersecting crises of climate justice and social inequity — filling the gap for climate adaptation and preparedness, building community power through open education, narrative change and regenerative design. Céline launched her debut novel and cultural anthropology book A Woman is a School, which follows the tradition of the hakawati, the storytellers of the Levant, holding Indigenous knowledge and wisdom. Céline Semaan, a hakawati herself, documents what she has witnessed throughout her life and the lives of her family members, sharing her upbringing and cultures of resistance.

The evening consists of a first preview of her class series "Designing Possible Futures" based on the book where she outlines frameworks for liberation. Our liberation and our oppression are undeniably interconnected, and Céline uses cultures of resistance as case studies for us to create our own creative resistance, in order to both survive and thrive in the polycrises.

Tickets are provided at a sliding scale for accessibility —
$10 student rate (admission only)
$20 general admission (admission and free copy of the book)
$40 monthly membership to Slow Factory's Everything is Political platform (admission, free copy of the book and latest issue of the EIP magazine plus monthly newspaper and member only events)

Want to do more? Make a donation directly on the Slow Factory Website to support independent journalists, new systems of liberation, and design and media for good.
