Chamber Divers: The High-Risk Science That Helped Win World War II

In August 1942, all but a few of the 7000 Allied troops who landed on the beaches of Normandy perished. Why did that mission fail and what happened over the next two years that changed the Allies’ fortunes? Rachel Lance, biomedical engineer and author of the recent book Chamber Divers, will discuss the heroic and all-too-human scientists who risked their lives in extreme conditions to pioneer the submarine and scuba technology that would help make D-Day a success.
